Insta-witter or Twit-gram?

keep-calm-and-follow-me-630

I joined Instagram and Twitter a week ago.  Yes, you heard me correctly.  It’s January 2015 and I only just expanded my social media skills to these platforms one week ago.

Does that make me an “Insta-witter?” or a “Twit-gram?”  Or does that combination go to a future celebrity baby name? (It could happen…)

Why did I hold out for so long?  I have had a Facebook account since 2008 and I’ve been blogging since then as well.  Why did I resist going down the Twitter and Instagram path?

Here are a few, honest reasons why I did not join:
1. I didn’t see a need, until now.  I did not think I was missing anything and I just didn’t have an interest to check it out.
2. My job did not require it so I was not pressured to conform.
3. I was concerned over having another distraction in my life.  I already have two young children.
4. I’m truly a latecomer when it comes to things that are socially trendy and cool.
5. None of my close friends and no one in my writers group said, “Hey Mandy, you’ve got to get on board with this Twit-gram shit!”

Over the Christmas holiday in 2014, I was talking to my best friend about these exact social media outlets and how I still hadn’t joined and did not think I would.  Fast forward to two weeks later and I join both of them within two days, just a few days into 2015.  Why?

Reasons why I finally joined the Insta-witter world:
1. The main reason was that a fellow author and blogger asked me for my “twitter handle” and I realized I didn’t have one but all the other authors did.  So I started an account.
2. I am getting rather bored with Facebook so I figured why not try another distracting, less ad-looking site.
3. If I don’t feel like reading words, I can just look at pictures – thank you Instagram.
4. If I don’t feel like looking at photos, then I can just look at 150 characters or less – thank you Twitter.
5. Finally but most importantly, I wanted to determine if I have been missing out. I have! Now that I have been playing around on the sites for a week, I see the fun and the potential in them both .  These sites are great opportunities for me to continue writing and connecting with other writers, editors and wordsmiths.

So there.  I suppose I’m here to stay Insta-friend and Twitter-my-heart!  Talk to you and share with you soon…
