Kids Journal Entries
I love that my daughter’s teacher encourages her and the class to write and practice letters in journals. It may only be Kindergarten but the instructor recognizes the importance of writing.
The teacher doesn’t worry about the kids’ spelling at this age. Why? Because some of the kids have no clue how to spell; in fact, several of the children have just learned the alphabet. For them it’s about the practice of putting together thoughts and complete sentences.
My daughter comes home with some funny things. I love reading her journals and being surprised by what she writes about our family.
I will share her most recent journal story in the comment section in case you have trouble viewing or understanding the words shown here. I have to laugh when I look at her page. She is a lot like me (or how I used to be). I tended to write big and use a lot of space; then when I realize I am running out of room, I cram it all at the bottom, just as she does here.
As a writer and her mom, I’m very proud of her abilities so far. She is doing a fantastic job at putting together sentences and having them all make sense.
Who knows, maybe some day she’ll have a blog like this one to share her experiences, knowledge and adventures. Or perhaps she and I can venture on a writing project together?!

The journal reads: Page 1 with the drawing - "My family has four people. My mom and dad and my little sister and me. Me and my little sister. My sister doesn't help me clean up that much but I do." Page 2 - "My little sister gets water in her face. My sister's name is Lana. I love my family. I like my family. One time I went to my mom's work. One time I rode a horse. Her name is Shadow.
