Poetry
Submit
Are you like me? Do you often feel an emotional roller-coaster when you submit writing to another person, group or organization? Whether it’s an article you wrote that you’re sending to a publisher or you are sending in your application for a new job, that actual act of submitting can be both exhilarating and terrifying.
Here is a poem I wrote about the feelings I have when I submit –
“Submit”
By: Mandy B. Fernandez
I hit the “Enter” button.
Click.
My words have been sent.
The emotions are overpowering.
Hopeful, nervous,
Excited and proud.
I did it.
I wrote something.
I took the time to put thoughts onto paper.
More importantly, I thought my words were valuable
Enough to share with someone else.
That isn’t easy to do.
That takes courage.
I experience a thrill;
A high, like a drug has taken over my brain.
Damn, I did it!
I wrote. I’m a writer.
I am amazing.
Now comes the hard part….waiting,
Receiving feedback and criticism.
Someone may not like what I said.
A reader may tear apart my words,
Like a sharp knife
Cutting fruit apart effortlessly.
I once felt like a winner.
Soon I may feel defeated.
What if others hate it?
What if others don’t understand it?
What have I done?
Stop. Remember what I did.
Remember how I felt
When I hit “submit.”
I opened up my soul.
I let someone else in.
I’ll say it again –
I am amazing
At least for the next several minutes.
