Grand Prize Winner of the Kaleidoscope Women’s Journey Summer 2020 Essay Contest!
What an honor – I recently received grand prize for my essay in the Kaleidoscope Women’s Journey summer 2020 contest. The theme was “lessons from the pandemic.” Apparently, I had a lot to say on this topic, almost five pages typed to be exact. Like many of you, I’ve felt the weight of the world in 2020 and at times, the uncertain, undoing of it all too.
As I dealt with my own ever changing emotions and particularly fell into extreme states of sadness in May and June, I forced myself to snap out of it. I looked for a way to heal or at least cope in healthier ways. So I turned to my writing, as I’ve done since I was 10 years old. Writing makes me feel better. It helps me make sense of our crazy world.
I’m incredibly humbled that a panel of judges thought my words and raw honesty made sense too. Thank you Kaleidoscope for offering up this writing contest. Thank you for giving me a way to heal and find hope again. Thank you for choosing me among your many talented writing submissions!
