Toastmasters International Magazine Features Mandy Fernandez and Local United Way Project
Pensacola, Fla. – February 19, 2017 – Writer and Toastmasters Competent Communicator (CC) Mandy Fernandez has a featured article in the February issue of Toastmasters International magazine. Her article, A More United Community shares her past leadership project when Mandy led a group of male volunteers to do a special presentation for United Way of Escambia County.
When Mandy joined Western Gate Toastmasters in May 2015, one of her goals besides completing the competent communicator manual and earning her CC designation was to be published in the Toastmasters magazine. She shared the news with her mentor early on and the mentor encouraged her to work toward that aspiration.
When Mandy delivered a speech to the local chamber of commerce on Small Business Week, she gave her ninth speech within nine months. Thanks to her Toastmasters training and preparation, Mandy was poised and delivered powerful statements on the importance of small businesses to local economy. At the close of that speech, a United Way representative approached her and asked if Mandy could speak to their team.
Soon a partnership was formed between Western Gate Toastmasters and United Way of Escambia County. Mandy developed a presentation with help of fellow Toastmasters, giving the group pointers on public speaking, how to ask for donations and how to be a confident, engaging communicator. The special event was well received by all who attended and volunteered.
From this experience, Mandy wrote about doing the project and how her public speaking went from a personal choice to a way to help the community and connect people. Her article was accepted and featured in Toastmasters Magazine in the February 2017 edition. Congratulations to Mandy Fernandez for this honor and for sharing this story worldwide to inspire other Toastmasters members and inspiring communicators.
