The Family that Laughs Together (and at each other), Stays Together
We were enjoying family time on our back patio on an early Sunday morning. Everyone had just woken up and was still in their pajamas. We hadn’t had breakfast yet but husband and I were enjoying some espresso.
Our youngest daughter was blowing bubbles and molding play-dough into balls and worms. Our oldest daughter was examining a dead dragonfly we found on the outdoor sofa. She kept asking questions about it and pointing out the different features.
My husband was getting a bit grossed out by her touching the deceased animal.
“That’s a dead bug. Maybe you need to go wash your hands now,” he said to her.
“She might be a scientist some day, let her experiment with it” I offered.
“Plus she’s a kid. She doesn’t have to be as OCDC as you are when it comes to germs.”
“OCDC?” he laughed immediately. “What is that term, some new disease that I don’t know about?”
“No,” I quickly replied with wit on the edge of my brain (realizing I added an extra letter in my word OCD), “OCDC is the sister band to ACDC!”
Then we both laughed hard.
Husband started singing a line from “Back in Black” by ACDC.
I chuckled some more.
“I think I need another cup of coffee to wake up,” I added.
These are the simple family moments that I really cherish and hope to remember in the future. Just us sitting around talking and laughing.
Yeah, I know we’re goofy and silly and perhaps even idiots. But I look at it like this – a family that laughs together and at each other, is the one that will stay together and be happy. And I love my sweet, small family – my husband and my two girls.
