Holiday Season Poem for 2021
Embrace the mess
Time goes by fast
The sprinkles are swept away
But the memories last
The wrapping paper will rip
After you carefully tape it in place
But you’ll never forget that smile
On that other person’s face
The stress of doing it all
May worry you today
But remember the wonder, the excitement
Happiness and joy on display
Some are without loved ones
Some are suffering this year
Finding the holidays difficult
Dealing with loss or fear
I’m thinking of all the memories
Of all the emotions we bear
Of how much things have changed
Of every wish and every prayer
I toss the feelings up in the air
May they scatter about at will
So we can have moments of peace
Settle ourselves, enjoy a thrill
Because life is short and complex
And darlings so are we
There’s more going on
That we never truly see
Still we deserve some magic
This season and in our lives
After nearly two years of chaos
We deserve a chance to thrive
So if you’re reading this poem
And it resonates with you
Please know that you’re not alone
And that others care, too
May you find a reason to laugh
May you know that you matter
Go show someone how amazing you are
Go make some noise and clatter
You have a voice and a big heart
You can use them for great impact
You are somebody’s everything
And that’s just a fact
So as we think about the season
And enter into a new year
Remember what’s important
And remember you are loved, my dear.
