Faithful Friends

Last week I was feeling down in the dumps and rather stressed.  One day I just completely lost it and fell apart.  I picked myself up rather quickly though with the support of my family and the kindness of a few friends too.

I have a few close, local friends that are absolutely wonderful.  One called and offered for me to come visit her on the beach for some much needed sun and relaxation.  Another called and offered to babysit my two girls so my husband and I could go on a movie date.  I took them both up on the offer!

My long-distance friends chimed in too.  One called me to check on me.  Another sent me a letter in the mail.

I’m so thankful for these faithful friends!  I may not speak to them every day or every week but we can still cherish our friendships and are there for each other when we need to be, no matter the distance or length of time since we last connected.

After receiving this love and attention, I was happy to pass some of that on to others.  I made it a point to compliment those around me who helped me get through the week.  Then a few days ago, a different friend asked for my help with a writing project.  Since my writing has been at a stand-still these past few weeks, I took this chance to use my skills to help another struggling writer like myself.  I will be helping her research her poetry and providing feedback with the collection of things she has written so far.  I can’t wait to see her go to the next level!

Human contact and connection are a powerful thing.  No man can be an island for too long.  Don’t mistake me. I like the quiet and personal alone time for my reflection.  But my faithful friends and those wonderful people around me are the ones who inspire me, who build me up, who make me want to give to others and who make this life a lot more fun to be in!

So thank you to my friends.  You know who you are!

Friends enrich our lives in ways only friends can. I am very lucky to have several talented and kindhearted girlfriends--each who inspire me in different ways and help me to be my best self (though I will always be a work in progress--always progressing, I hope!).
