Bonding over Art (a poem)

Grandmother will draw a flower or a cat.
Granddaughter will tell stories over video chat.

They make a list of what to paint.
On their weekly calls to reacquaint.

This e-bonding time is their current norm
Giving them unique ways to brainstorm

And connect over hobbies that they adore
Keeping each other company is never a bore.

When grandparents and grand kids use technology to play
The possibilities are endless and there’s more to say.

These memories are magical, like the wave of a wand.
Cherished moments sealed with a lovely, lasting bond.

This is a poem I wrote in honor of the moments I’ve witnessed the past few months of my youngest daughter spending artistic time with one of her grandmothers, Mimi. Together they connect over their hobbies of art – drawing, painting, coloring and crafting. On Grandparents Day, they took a painting class together using a Facebook Live painting opportunity. The results are amazing . I know they will both cherish this time together.
