The View from Here

My youngest daughter just turned two years old.  She’s a feisty, spirited red-head full of passion, love and emotions.  She rocks our family’s world in so many ways.

The other day I captured this image of her staring out the back door listening to sounds and watching her daddy cut the grass.  She can go from being silly to suddenly serious in just two seconds flat.  It often makes me wonder what goes on inside her head.

What’s the view like from a two year old?  What would her perspective on life be like?

I honestly have no idea.  But for a fun writer’s prompt, I tried to pretend like I knew…  I wrote this based on my observations with my two-year old.

My guess is that life for a two-year old like her is centered around the family, with activity after activity changing during the day with some food and a nap mixed in.   Something like this:

“The View from Here – Being a Two Year Old”

I see a bird.
Oooh, look at that!
The trees are green.
What’s that?  A bug!
I’m hungry.
Want milk.
Mommy, mommy, mommy!
Look at me.
Play with me.
What’s that? A book!
Read to me.
Hug me.
Look at me.
Tell me I’m pretty and cute.
That’s the eyes.
Nose.
Mouth.
I know all the body parts.
I’m smart.
Ask me about animals.
I know most of the sounds.
Ask me about colors.
I can state the rainbow.
Want to go swing.
Higher, higher!
Let’s blow bubbles.
Pop!
Chase me.
Fall down.
Cry.
Cry harder.
Hold me.
Make me feel safe.
Off I go again.
Running, trying to jump.
Watch out for ant piles.
Chase after my big sister.
Fall down.
Whoops a daisy.
Water the flowers.
Spill water down my pants.
Want a banana.
Want crackers.
Want chocolate.
More milk.
Watch TV.
My favorite show, Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood.
More. Again.
Cranky.
Sleepy but I don’t want to nap.
Diaper change.
Lay down.
Fight my sleep.
Fall asleep.
Peaceful angel baby.
Wakes up screaming.
Falls back asleep.
Wakes up screaming again.
Mommy, mommy, mommy!
Play puzzles.
Read books.
Hugs and kisses.
Color a picture.
Make a mess.
Want milk.
Want rice.
Want chicken and cheese.
Want chocolate.
Dirty hands.
Dirty clothes.
Go outside.
Play some more.
Write with chalk.
Go down the slide.
Time to go in.
Fights the scenery change.
Cry.
Cry harder.
Goes limp like a noodle.
Mommy nearly drops me.
Hi Daddy.
I will charm daddy.
Take a bath.
Bubbles.
Screams if hair and face are wet.
Loves to play tea party in the tub.
Loves to splash sister.
Get out.
Dry off.
Cry.
Hugs.
Kisses.
Run around naked.
Chase around until clothes are put on.
Brush teeth.
Story time.
Hugs and kisses.
Time for sleep.
Repeat again tomorrow.
