Academic and Business Writing
About two months ago, I pushed myself to try academic and business writing. Why not try it, I thought to myself? I work in higher education. I work for a business outreach center. It makes sense. Still I was nervous.
Luckily I found three successful leaders to interview and gain insights from – they helped me form my theme; the article practically wrote itself after that. Then came the pitch to a publication – Women in Higher Education. To my delightful surprise, the editor loved my idea. She wrote back kindly and promptly. It was a dream come true!
The article was just published in the November issue. I am so proud of how it turned out.
Thank you “Women in Higher Education” for giving me this opportunity. I’m already writing and brainstorming other academic and business publications for a future feature! 🙂
The cool part about writing for me is that I haven’t pinned myself down to one particular style or type yet. Just the other day I started a humorous piece that happened between my oldest daughter and me. An hour after that I was making written connections between football and marriage. I love the diversity and the endless possibilities of topics I can write about.
Have you ever branched out from your normal way of doing something, whether it is writing or a different genre? Try it. You may be pleasantly happy at the new discoveries like I have been.
(Note: The image shown is only page 1 of my article. The entire piece is 3 pages long. If you’d like to see a full copy of it, please send me a written request. The entire publication, Women in Higher Education is a subscription-paid only newsletter).
